The Positive Results from Google Business Profile Reviews

Most every Google Business Profile client seems reluctant to ask for reviews on their GBP listing, but Google Business Profile Reviews are one of the most important aspects of optimizing for Google Local Results.

Strange but true. Most website owners do not have any issue with asking for testimonials but they have some sort of aversion to asking for their clients to leave a review on their Google Business Profile listing.

They are missing out on a great opportunity to improve their business’ online presence.

Below are the results of asking for and receiving reviews.

Late in June of 2021, a central Florida roofing contractor hired us to manage their Google Business Profile listing.

If you know anything about living in central Florida, you know that roofs in central Florida are subject to all types of damage. From the strong winds of hurricanes and tornados to trees toppling over during wind and rain storms and in my case, a lightning bolt that came out of nowhere to punch through the roof of one of my storage sheds while I watched.

The other thing is that there is just about a roofing contractor on every corner making the competition fierce for this online advertising space

We worked with the client to establish local pack keywords for their Google Business Profile listing campaign’s geo ranking reports.

The selected keywords were:

  • Roof Repair
  • Roof Installation
  • Roof Inspection
  • Roofing Contractor

While listing ranking placements by keyword is an important metric to measure for improvements in a client’s Google Business Listing, they are not the only metric.

We work to improve the following metrics as well:

  • Customer Actions
    • Visits To Their Website From Their Google Business Profile Listing
    • Direction Requests From Their GBP Listing
    • Phone Calls From Their Google Business Profile Listing
  • Views By Search Type
  • Overall Views Of Their Google Business Profile Listing
  • Discovery Search Views Of Their GBP Listing
  • Direct Search Views Of Their Google Business Profile Listing

When taking on a new client we begin with:

  • Checking Their NAP (Name, Address, Phone) Data For Consistency Between Their Website And Google Business Profile And Any Directory Listings That They May Have
  • Assessing Their Image Usage
  • Assessing Their Products And Services
  • Taking A Pulse Check On Their Search Query Terms
  • Check Their Service Area Information
  • Check Their Hours Of Operation Information

At this point, we create a baseline report from which we will judge the performance of the campaign

We also develop GBP keyword and geolocation rich post content which will be delivered on a weekly basis to develop a cadence for Google to be prompted to re-evaluate our client’s Google Business Profile listing.

The Results Of Not Asking For And Receiving Reviews For Google Business Profile

This client was typically reluctant to ask for reviews. From July 23 2021 when we first created the baseline reports and started posting GBP content through November 26, 2021, the client asked for no reviews and we had little movement as we were forced to do it all with GBP content posts. During this period they did, however, receive one (1) review. Not enough to move the needle.

The results are shown below:

In the above keyword, the Geogrid reports the red dot with an X represents a Google Business Profile listing outside of the top twenty (20) results when searching for the keyword represented.

There was some movement during this period but not enough to make the phone ring and generate new business.

Then, between the period November 26, 2021, through December 22, 2021, the client began requesting their clients to leave a review on their Google Business Profile listing.

They gained thirteen (13) new reviews during this period.

The results of those thirteen (13) new reviews completely changed this client’s new business opportunities in the online marketplace.

They moved their listing results for the keyword term, roof repair, from no listings within the top twenty (20) results to gaining up to position results of numbers two (2) and three (3) around their physical location.

They moved their listing results for the keyword term, roof installation, from one number four (4) listing and several pages two (2) listings within the top twenty (20) results to gaining up to four (4) position results of number two (2) around their physical location leaving only one (1) geogrid location outside of the top twenty (20).

They moved their listing results for the keyword term, roof inspection, from one number seventeen (17) listing within the top twenty (20) results to gaining up to three (3) position results of number two (2) around their physical location leaving only four (4) geogrid locations outside of the top twenty (20).

They moved their listing results for the keyword term, roofing contractor, from zero (0) listings within the top twenty (20) results to gaining up to three (3) position results of number two (2) around their physical location leaving only one (1) geogrid locations outside of the top twenty (20).

Their customer actions visits to their website grew from zero (0) to seven (7) within the last thirty (30) days.

Their customer action direction requests grew from six (6) to thirty-two (32) within the last thirty (30) days.

Their customer actions phone calls grew from one (1) to eleven (11) within the last thirty (30) days.

Their customer overall search views grew from one hundred thirty-one (131) to eight forty-two (842) within the last thirty (30) days.

Their customer discovery search views grew from sixty-six (66) to three hundred fourteen (314) within the last thirty (30) days.

Their customer direct search views grew from sixty-five (65) to five hundred sixteen (516) within the last thirty (30) days.
