Today marks the summer solstice, and Google has recognized the day with a new Google doodle created by Takashi Murakami. Murakami’s logo is colorful which brings a cheerful glow and warmth to the Google main page. Murakami is an artist and illustrator whose art is based in the Japanese consumer culture, Anime, and design.
The summer solstice is the day when the planet is perfectly positioned toward the sun and receives the most amount of sunlight. Although the summer solstice is only an instant in time, it is is referred to as Midsummer. It is considered the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
Along with his joyful and abundance of smiling faces illustration, Murakami also created a chillier version for the people living in the southern hemisphere who are in the middle of winter.
